Mark Isaksen is a Senior Program Officer at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). He works to support and empower a broad range of museums through a grant portfolio that includes the Museum Grants for African American History and Culture, Museums Empowered and National Leadership Grants for Museums. His previous experience includes working at the National Park Service, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, the Independence Seaport Museum, and the National Building Museum. His interests include social justice and civil rights, maritime and industrial heritage, and environmental education and living collections. He received his MS degree in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and his BA degree in History from American University in 1990.
