China and Inner Asia
2019. China, US, Germany. 28 minutes.
In-person Q&A with Bill Callahan.
Donald Trump has made walls into a hot topic. This documentary film examines the politics of walls, such as Trump’s and the historic barricades of the Berlin Wall and Great Wall of China, through the ways they are experienced. Great walls are brought to life with archive and contemporary footage showing how they work as sites of conservative and progressive ideology as well as emotional spaces of everyday experience. Rather than conclude that walls are either good or bad, we look at how they evoke horror and wonder.
