Nikhil A. Kumta, MD, MS, is the Director of Surgical and Bariatric Endoscopy, an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Henry D. Janowitz Division of Gastroenterology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Attending Physician at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Kumta received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He subsequently trained in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center. He remained at Cornell for fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, during which time he served as Chief Gastroenterology Fellow and obtained a Masters Degree in Patient-Oriented Research from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. He then completed subspecialty fellowship training in advanced endoscopy at Cornell. Dr. Kumta specializes in pancreatic disease, biliary tract disease, pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, surgical endoscopy, and endoscopic management of obesity. His research has been recognized internationally and published in numerous high impact journals.
