Karl John Sandin MD MPH is a physiatrist and public health practitioner. He graduated from Wheaton College (IL), Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University, and the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and subspecialty certified in spinal cord injury medicine. He has served in board leadership for Santa Barbara Health Initiative, Sister Kenny Foundation, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and currently is a board member of the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association and chairs its clinical and consumer affairs committee. Additionally he is the President of Global Medical Rehabilitation Advisors, a consultancy that assists American and international clients enter and succeed in medical rehabilitation. He has assisted organizations on four continents achieve their objectives using a participant/observation approach. He holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care of Creighton University School of Medicine. He has published more than 25 peer-reviewed articles and a textbook on stroke rehabilitation.
