This session will identify key barriers and facilitators affecting initiation of services and adherence to medical follow-up after pediatric acquired brain injury (ABI). To date, very little research has focused on identifying the specific factors that influence caregiver decisions to seek care and/or follow through on treatment recommendations for children with ABI. Research findings from a scoping review will be presented along with discussion about further clinical and research opportunities for action. Improved understanding of these factors may lead to better service access, reduction of unmet needs, and improved long-term outcomes for children with ABI.
