The International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) portrays the complex inter-relationships of constructs that determine an individual's function, activity, and participation. However, it has gained limited traction as a means to pragmatically inform rehabilitation services delivery, or to communicate efficiently and precisely with non-rehabilitation clinicians. This symposium will examine the ICF's utility from two perspectives; 1) pragmatically informing and individualizing day-to-day clinical care and 2) advancing interdisciplinary function-related communication. Presenters address these topics from the perspective of cancer rehabilitation (Andrea Cheville), geriatrics (Jon Bean), brain injury (John Whyte), and policy (Leighton Chan).
