The symposium will explain the unique challenges facing refugees with disabilities (RWDs) and initiatives designed to facilitate their successful social and economic integration across various life areas. Drs. Kuo, Dr. Vlassopoulou and Dr. Landry will discuss their experiences, approach and outcomes from their recent projects around the globe, targeting community based life skills training with adolescent Burmese refugees resettled in central Indiana, functional language in asylum-seeking children in Greece and core competencies for physiotherapists working with RWDs in Norway. Drs. Hasnain and Mirza will introduce the PRIDE initiative in Chicago that empowers RWDs to pursue desired employment and educational paths.
