The purpose of this presentation is to examine newly published guidelines from the Center for Disease Control regarding the care and management of children following mild traumatic brain injury. Specifically, we will highlight the application of these recommendations to speech-language pathology (SLP) practices. In particular, we discuss education, assessment, treatment, team management, and ongoing post-injury monitoring. In addition, we provide suggested timelines regarding implementation of services by SLPs. We will discuss these recommendations and practices separately for young children (i.e., birth to elementary school) and adolescents (i.e., middle and high school-age children).
