Sanjay Iyer, MD is the Co-Medical Director of CHS (Carolinas HealthCare System) Neuroscience. He is also the Director of the Carolinas Center for Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders at Carolinas Medical Center. His clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of person’s with Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. His research and scholarship address the issues in treatment and care that involve persons with of Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders. This work has included conceptual and empirical studies on participatory research and exercise in Parkinson’s disease as well as clinical trials. Dr. Iyer has previously been awarded funding by the Duke Endowment to build a multidisciplinary PD clinic and has collaborated with Dr. Hirsch in creating and studying a community-based participatory research project focusing on the benefits of exercise in PD in reducing healthcare utilization.
