As a cognitive neurologist and neurorehabilitationist, Dr. Barrett led neurorehabilitation programs at Penn State and Kessler Institute, as well as serving as an executive officer in both the American Society for Neurorehabilitation and the American Academy of Neurology Section for Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair. Dr. Barrett introduced innovative ways to use theory in stroke research (Barrett et al., 2012; Barrett and Muzaffar, 2014) and clinical practice (leader of 14-site, practice-based rehabilitation research network for spatial neglect care, Practice-RRuN, presented in this symposium). Scientific qualifications include 5 multi-year federal grants from the NIH and NIDILRR, yielding dozens of publications on the effects of spatial neglect on functional and motor performance, and large-scale publications on success of spatial retraining with prism adaptation.
