Mr. Johnson is a certified occupational therapy assistant and second-year Rehabilitation Sciences PhD student at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Research focus includes aging in minority populations, with an emphasis on patient-centered functional outcomes, disparities in those outcomes and patterns in healthcare utilization. Specific interest in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Life-Space Assessment. Current projects include the association of functional outcome instruments with Medicare utilization among older Mexican Americans, gender and racial differences in the self-awareness of brain injury survivors and outcome instrument concordance between Older Mexican Americans and their caregivers. Specific populations of interest are aging among Native Americans/Alaska Natives, Mexican Americans, and sexual minorities, as well as persons aging with HIV.
