Dr. Kevin Desai is an Assistant Professor in Practice at The University of Texas at San Antonio. His research interests include Computer Vision, Multimedia Systems, Image Processing, Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality, Human Computer Interaction, Machine Learning and Deep Learning with applications in domains of healthcare, rehabilitation, virtual training and gaming. Dr. Desai received his PhD in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in May 2019. His dissertation, titled ‘Quantifying Experience & Task Performance in 3D Serious Games’, was completed under the guidance of Dr. Balakrishnan Prabhakaran in the Multimedia Systems Lab. He also received his MS in Computer Science from UTD in May 2015, whereas his BTech (Bachelor of Technology) In Computer Engineering from Nirma University (India) in June 2013. His current research work focuses on the creation of 3D serious games by capturing and generating 3D model of a human and placing them in a collaborative virtual task environment. Different research problems that Dr. Desai has worked on include multi-camera calibration, 3D model combination, mesh generation and simplification, 3D serious game generation. He has published 7 first author refereed papers, as of May 2019, in different prestigious international conferences (IEEE/ACM). Dr. Desai is also an active reviewer for two top Multimedia journals – Springer Multimedia Systems Journal & IEEE Transactions on Multimedia. He has also served as a Session Chair in the IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM 2015) and the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia Big Data (BigMM 2017). He has also helped in organizing the IEEE International Conference on Health-care Informatics (ICHI 2015) by serving as the Local Arrangements Co-Chair.
