Objective : Describe the rationale, design, and methods of the Mission Reconnect (MR) protocol to deliver a mobile and web based complementary and integrative health (CIH) program to Veterans and their partners.
This four-year mixed-methods randomized control trial will determine the effect of a mobile and web based CIH program for Veterans and their partners. The study will use two arms in a sample of Veterans with comorbid pain and PTSD, and their partners (e.g. spouse, child, parent). The study will evaluate the effectiveness and perceived value of the MR program in relation to physical and psychological symptoms, global health, and social outcomes.
The primary site is James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL. Two additional sites are pending.
Participants (or Animals, Specimens, Cadavers) :
Planned228 Veteran/Partner dyads across three VA sites.
The MR program is intended to complement usual care treatment of pain and PTSD. A waitlist control condition will be used. This will allow assessment of the MR program beyond the effects of usual care being received. In addition, the brief waitlist control period ensures that all subjects will ultimately be offered the MR program.
Main Outcome Measure(s) : Quality of Life Short Form 12; Defense and Veterans Pain Rating Scale; Pain Outcomes Questionnaire e-Short Form VA; Stress and Tension 5 point-likert scale; Beck Depression Scale, Stress: Perceived Stress Scale; Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index; Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale; Compassion for Self and Other’s Scales; Self-Assessment of Change and MR Program Satisfaction Items.
Results : Study enrollment has not yet started
Conclusions : This work highlights innovative delivery of CIH to Veterans and their partners for treatment of PTSD and pain.
