The literature shows that self-efficacy and other emotional/psychological factors are equally as important as physical factors in predicting function related to self-reported disability and quality of life among stroke survivors (LeBrasseur, 2006). Through a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, this symposium aims to address health-promoting behaviors that improve quality of life in community-dwelling people who have survived a stroke. The presenters will review the supporting literature and theoretical basis for health promotion principles that improve quality of life. Furthermore, they will present various evidence-based and theory -driven recommendations for improving quality of life and the potential implications related to community reintegration.
