Vocational rehabilitation and related rehabilitation services, and employment, all increase long-term well-being and motivation to pursue new goals. They also increase social interaction that counteracts isolation and strengthens social integration. These outcomes are especially important for refugees with disabilities, who participate in social and community activities at low rates and are underemployed compared to the general populations of refugees and native-born Americans (with and without disabilities). Attendees will learn about PRIDE (Partners of Refugees in Illinois Disability Employment), a research-informed program that works for and with refugees with disabilities to advance their rehabilitation and employment opportunities and outcomes.
