Dr. Ichord completed neurology training at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in 1991, and was on faculty there until 2002, where she conducted research in animal models of cerebral ischemia. She moved to Univ Pennsylvania & Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2002, where she established and serves as the director of the Pediatric Stroke Program, and section head for neurocritical care neurology consultation services. Research activities have included: validation of the Pediatric NIH stroke scale and pediatric stroke subtype classification, acute therapy for childhood stroke, multicenter cohort studies of risk factors and outcomes of stroke in children, outcomes of traumatic brain injury and circulatory arrest; spectrum and predictors of long-term language and cognitive outcomes after stroke in children.
