Catherine Schmidt: Catherine Schmidt, PT, DPT, MS, PhD is an Assistant Professor for the Department of Physical Therapy at MGH Institute of Health Professions, Boston, MA. Dr. Schmidt completed a postdoctoral research fellowship through the Center on Health Services Training and Research (CoHSTAR) at Brown University School of Public Health in Providence, RI. Dr. Schmidt is trained in conducting both clinical and health services research focused on older adults and musculoskeletal spinal disorders. Dr. Schmidt has over 14 years of clinical experience as a physical therapist caring for patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Dr. Schmidt is currently evaluating the impact of physical therapy and timing of physical therapy intervention on downstream health care utilization among Medicare beneficiaries with lumbar spinal stenosis. She was awarded the CoHSTAR Pilot Grant in 2018 to explore the impact and timing of physical therapy on pain and healthcare utilization for Veterans with low back pain. In addition, she received the 2019 Center for Large Data Research and Data Sharing in Rehabilitation (CLDR) Pilot Project award for Large Data studies to evaluate the impact of physical therapy on healthcare utilization for older adults with arthritis and cardiovascular disease.
