Dr. Sandra Kletzel’s is a Research Health Scientist at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. Dr. Kletzel received her PhD in neuroscience from Loyola University Chicago Medical Center in 2013. A focus of her graduate school research was on the development of an animal model of dopamine agonist medication-induced impulse control disorders in a rodent model of Parkinson’s disease. This work has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals under the name of Sandra Rokosik. After transitioning into clinical research and completing a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Health Services Research at the Hines VA Hospital, Dr. Kletzel was awarded a VA Research Rehabilitation & Development Level 1 Career Development Award. Collectively, her clinical research has focused on understanding brain and behavior relationships particularly in the people with cognitive impairments. Information gained about these brain and behavior relationships will be used to guide future research that focuses on the development cognitive rehabilitation interventions.
