70th AHCA/NCAL Convention and Expo
Using staging tools appropriately for residents with dementia is vital to promoting both their quality of life and team members’ job satisfaction. Ability-focused staging maximizes residents’ abilities and independence in ADLs and communication and empowers care team members to have meaningful interactions with each resident, increasing their job satisfaction and easing the burden of care. In addition to the obvious human benefits, use of staging tools can contribute to regulatory compliance with the IMPACT Act, annual surveys, and quality measures as well as reimbursement implications in the patient driven payment mode (PDPM). With the “silver wave” headed our way, now more than ever providers should be experts in caring for those living with dementia.
