Gaming is on the rise and libraries are noticing – games promote literacy and support the mission of libraries. From hosting tabletop tournaments to meetups at local bars, libraries are finding ways to connect players and build inclusive new communities. But not everyone has the resources to host large events and purchase expensive games. This poster session will show how you can build an in-house game collection and offer cost-effective programs that can be tailored to fit the needs of your library and your community.
The poster session will present 6 basic steps for starting a game collection: Propose, Build, Process, Promote, Program, and Maintain. The display will include photos with examples of game collections at libraries of varying size. A handout will be available that offers a curated list of online resources, game companies to contact, and information on national gaming events.
