Diversity is a core value of ALA, and often an organizational value shared among libraries of all types. Despite these values, and the strong role marketing plays in serving our communities, embedding diversity into marketing is often overlooked.
Why should diversity and inclusion matter to us? As the cultural makeup of our population continues to change, a lack of diverse and inclusive marketing may send the wrong message, make library patrons and employees feel unwelcome, and result in our libraries becoming a viral social media story.
Who's missing and whose story are you telling? From print collateral, to signage, videos, photography, tone and voice, and social media, how do we intentionally incorporate diversity into our marketing stories and content?
Our poster will showcase examples of marketing strategies that we have implemented at the University of Arizona Libraries and offer tips and resources to help you create a new toolkit.
Whether you’re a new or experienced marketer, be inspired to make all of your patrons feel seen, heard, and respected.
