The new RDA attributes for name authority records allow catalogers to add extra biographical information about authors. Although these fields are optional, in order for catalogers to add extra author information, they need to investigate further. Sometimes this means the cataloger is urged to contact the author directly for this information. A survey has been sent out to measure the comfort levels of catalogers when it comes to contacting authors for extra information and if said authors have requested that catalogers not include this information in a name authority record. This survey will be of interest to catalogers involved with creating name authority records. The Library of Congress and the Program for Cooperative Cataloging bear no responsibility for the content of this survey and will play no role in the analysis of the survey responses.
