While exploring the challenge of language barriers, this poster addresses the question: How can we celebrate and embrace language diversity while at the same time improving communication and access to information by reducing language barriers? Using examples from Academic and Public libraries, the poster identifies target populations and provides recommendations on how libraries can be involved in promoting Multilingual Information Literacy.
The poster will present statistics to show the problem of language barriers in the online environment. Based on research that was carried out at a Canadian university, the poster will provide a working definition of multilingual information literacy and provide examples of how libraries are addressing language barriers to information access.
