The small state of Rhode Island is doing big things to advocate for strong school libraries. Inspired by ALA Past President Jim Neal’s “Fight for School Libraries” executive summary and the ALA State Ecosystem Initiative, stakeholders in Rhode Island are partnering to share priorities for action and create a unified message of the value of school libraries. Our unique story includes “outside the box” parent advocacy events, a Kickstarter funded documentary featuring compelling stories about school librarians, and a state library board ad hoc committee to study the current state of school libraries and make recommendations for action. Come learn and be inspired to join the momentum to support school libraries as essential to every learning community. The poster will present the project using photos, images, quotes and minimal text to tell our story. The presenters will stand by the poster and describe our project, answer any questions, and welcome ideas from other states who are doing similar things.
