The Stork Storytime Reads Librarian Toolkit is a free online resource that the North Liberty Community Library has developed as part of the library's Stork Storytime initiative. This cutting edge initiative works with expecting families to develop a reading routine before baby, and chaos, arrive through the Stork Storytime Reads program. The Reads Toolkit includes a downloadable guide, print materials and logos. It is geared toward librarians, enabling libraries of any size to implement the Reads program. This Toolkit has the potential to provide a tremendous impact to libraries and their communities. By utilizing the Toolkit instead of developing similar programs from scratch, scarce resources including staff, time and money will be saved. The poster will include narrative text explaining the Stork Storytime concept, its origins and the contents of the Toolkit. Diagrams will illustrate implementation and planning timelines and statistics will be shared that support the need for libraries to begin focusing early literacy programs on expecting families and caregivers. Visuals from the Toolkit will include the program logos, reading logs, and a sample press release. The poster will also have pictures of the prizes expecting families earn for participating in the Reads program. A list of other libraries currently implementing Stork Storytime programming will be included to continue building a network of support among librarians.
