Taiwan Reading Festival is an annual event of the library field and a national campaign for reading promotion, which is held annually in a creative way on the first weekend of December by all the public libraries in Taiwan. During the campaign, writers, publishers, bookstores, libraries and readers share their passion for writing and reading by participating in a variety of related activities held by libraries. In other words, public libraries integrate resources from different sectors to help the public cultivate a lifelong reading habit and flourish the publishing industry to make reading the most beautiful cinerary of Taiwan.
As one of national public library, the National Library of Public Information (NLPI) holds creative and innovative events every year in the Taiwan Reading Festival to arouse people’s interest in reading and cultivate their reading habit. The event, the Reading Auction, held in 2017, was the most unique one. The concept and elements of auctions were integrated into the event and readers were encouraged to accumulate their “knowledge points” by participating in various kinds of activities held by the NLPI. With enough “knowledge points”, readers could “bid” for their desiring presents provided by the NLPI, such as best seller, stationeries and etc. The event was successful with over ten thousand people participating.
This proposed poster will share the creative ideas and results of the Reading Auction, including how the action was planned and carried out. The actual auction hosted by professional auctioneers and the feedbacks of readers will also be shared.
