The startup of a library diversity committee is a challenging process that leaves newcomers wondering where to begin. Emory Libraries formed a volunteer working group in late 2016 to explore opportunities for establishing a formal group to kick start diversity activities and adopt practices modeled on successful programs in libraries elsewhere. Our poster presents a timeline of the key events in our progression from working group to committee and beyond. It includes information on our framework, stakeholders, our proposed road map, events, and engagement across campus. The audience will take away a clear picture of how a volunteer group can successfully make meaningful institutional change and demystify the process of confronting social issues in the academic library environment.
