Ticketed Event
Whether you’re an administrator, middle manager, leader of change, or involved in change at the ground level, this preconference offers something for you! We will explore change management as a foundational concept for individuals, organizations, and institutions, as well as the particulars of instituting change within libraries and their technical services departments.
In this session, our diverse panel of presenters will answer questions such as: What are the most common drivers of change that libraries face? At what level(s) does change occur, and do differences among change-types exist? Furthermore, how can employees remain grounded in difficult times, and how can leaders minimize pushback but achieve their goals? Lastly, how can a deep understanding of organizational purpose and communication help librarians control their own destinies by aligning missions with funder expectations?
After learning about the foundations of change management, subsequent presentations will discuss examples and case studies specific to libraries and technical services. Some of these examples relate to approaching ILS migrations like a “Get Out The Vote” campaign, shared leadership, and change management concepts applicable to reorganizing technical services and reallocating collections budgets. This preconference will also include a hands-on session to help librarians drive change through turning outward to avoid falling into a reactive mindset.
By the end of this preconference, participants will be able to articulate what change management encompasses, identify ways to lead change regardless of position or rank, and learn to manage their own responses to change as well as strategies to engage others in change initiatives.
