Despite the lowest black unemployment rate in years, racially-engineered policies have left black neighborhoods starving in food deserts and more than 1 in 5 black households struggling to afford food. For black children, hunger compounds these barriers by impeding their ability to learn and succeed in the classroom.
Community health centers provide common-sense solutions to these problems, such as: prescriptions for healthy foods; obesity prevention programs; access to farmer’s markets; WIC clinics; job training; and innovative partnerships to address health disparities.
The experts on this panel will arm the audience with concrete examples of how to promote food as medicine.
