Congressional Black Caucus
Rep. Karen Bass is the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, which has an historic 55 members and 5 full committee Chairs.
Rep. Bass serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where she Chairs the Subcommittee on Africa. Rep. Bass is also on the House Judiciary Committee, where she serves as Acting Chair of the Crime Subcommittee.
Prior to serving in Congress, she made history as the first African-American woman to serve as Speaker of the California Assembly. Prior to public office, Rep. Bass worked as a physician assistant and founded the Community Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment.
