This session is a critical discussion from the Black Millennial perspective on the national political debate for the need to provide restitution to the descendants harmed and who experienced historical trauma from slavery and its legacy. Due to the prominent attention to reparations in the 2020 presidential election, and increased academic understanding to the ways the history of slavery and discrimination has fueled racial disparities in the Black community, the event will bring together subject matter experts and Black millennial leaders to 1) analyze the shift in mainstream attention to reparations, 2) discuss the State of the Black Millennial in the fight to advance wealth and economic prosperity in Black America, and 3) facilitate a community dialogue to reflect on the future legacy and existing possibilities for Black millennials to build power and mobilize for change in today’s Black America.
