Health Service Advisory Group's (HSAG) ambulatory surgery center special initiative project (ASC SIP) “Knock Out Infections—ASC Infection Prevention Initiative” is focused on infection prevention practices in California's ASCs. The ASC SIP was initially funded by CMS in 2015 to focus on hand hygiene and safe injection practices. In 2017, the project was funded for two more years with a new focus on infection prevention practices and surgical site infections (SSIs). The project endeavors to spread evidence-based infection prevention practices, assist ASCs with creating and maintaining effective infection prevention programs, and engage and educate patients, families, and caregivers to be advocates in their health care.

Learning Objectives:

• Describe educational tools to use in ASCs to reduce Surgical Site Infections (SSIs).
• Describe educational tools to use in ASCs to improve infection prevention practices.
• Identify SSI surveillance processes for the ASC setting and report as necessary to NHSN.
