Maureen W. Hemingway, DNP, RN, CNOR, has been a perioperative nurse for more than 35 years. She has been in the Nursing Practice Specialist role at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for seven years and has led many projects developing and implementing various large scale education and orientation plans for all perioperative staff with different major initiatives. Maureen has been involved with coordinating and developing plans to incorporate many technologies into the OR environment for the perioperative staff, including intraoperative MRI, intraoperative CT scanning, and interventional radiology processes into the OR, including vascular, neuro IR, and interventional cardiac procedures. Maureen has implemented a multidisciplinary surgical team training program as the nursing lead in collaboration with surgical and anesthesia colleagues. She works closely with the MGH Learning Laboratory and as nursing liaison to the new products committee. Maureen has published many articles on perioperative nursing, including the response to the Boston Marathon bombing and safety planning for intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging. She has authored many poster presentations at national and international forums on surgical team training. Maureen has a real interest in the work on the nurse as part of a multidisciplinary team. No conflict.
