Dr. Doreen Wagner is a known expert in perioperative patient safety and unplanned perioperative hypothermia. She has received funding, conducted perioperative research, published numerous book chapters and articles, and presented in the perioperative arena for over twenty-five years. In health care for 35 years, Doreen’s career roles have included perioperative staff nursing to Surgical Services Educator, Patient Safety System Coordinator in the acute care setting, legal nurse consultant, and nursing faculty. Presently, Doreen is a Professor in the WellStar School of Nursing at Kennesaw State University in Georgia and teaches a fundamentals in perioperative nursing course as well as research.
Doreen holds membership in numerous professional organizations with long-term volunteer activism in local to national levels of AORN. Doreen is the 2005 recipient of the AORN National Award for Outstanding Perioperative Nursing Research, awarded the 2009 AORN Award for Outstanding Perioperative Nursing Education, and most recently, the 2018 recipient of the AORN Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing. Doreen is presently the Chair of the AORN Nursing Research Committee.
