Nancy Appling has been an RNFA for over 30 year, working as an ACNP, CRNFA at the VAMC for the past 25 years. She is proficient in assisting is surgeries involving the thoracic cavity, including, cardiac, esophageal, pulmonary, diaphragm, and endovascular vein harvesting. She pioneered the development of a multidiscipline thoracic oncology clinic for the treatment of thoracic oncology. She was awarded Outstanding Advanced Practice Nurse at the VAMC, Memphis; awarded Outstanding Graduate Clinic Preceptor by the University of Tennessee College of Nursing; and Outstanding Preceptor from Christian Brothers University. She has published in peer-reviewed medical journals and made peer-reviewed presentations. Appling is an instructor/developer of the RNFA Certification Program at University of Tennessee College of Health Science Center, the first RNFA program in the state of Tennessee. She is currently an active member of AANP, ANA, TNA, AORN, and GMAANP. She serves as first chair of professional practice for RNFA specialty assembly coordinating council for AORN and is a member of the Advance Practice Nurse Specialty Assembly. No conflict.
