Dr. Dort is currently the Vice Chairman for Education and Program Director of the surgical residency program for the Department of Surgery at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. He is also Professor of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Dr. Dort currently serves on the board of directors of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery. He is also a member of the continuing education committee, resident and fellow training committee, membership committee, and is co-chair of the quality, safety, and outcomes committee of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He is the immediate Past-President of the Washington DC Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Dort received his undergraduate degree with honors in chemistry at Florida Atlantic University and his medical degree from the University of Miami. He completed his internship at the Naval Hospital, San Diego, and his residency in surgery at the University of California, Davis - East Bay program. Dr. Dort was formerly the medical director of minimally invasive surgery at Carilion Clinic and associate professor of surgery at Virginia Tech-Carillion School of Medicine in Roanoke, Virginia, chief of surgery at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, and past president of the Kansas chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He served in the medical corps of the United States Navy for 23 years. No conflict.
