Cecil A. King, MS, RN, CNS, CNOR, APRN, is an award winning perioperative educator and advanced practice nurse with 33 years' experience as a Registered Nurse; most recently seven years' experience in ambulatory care providing primary care and case management within a community health center. Cecil is the clinical educator for perioperative services at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Massachusetts. He sits on the Competency & Credentialing Institute's (CCI) Research Committee and is a CNOR portfolio evaluator. Cecil is also on the Editorial Board of the AORN Journal and is co-coordinator of the Magnet column, "Magnet Insights," for the AORN Journal. He is a contributor to the development and evolution of the Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS) publishing chapters on its application in perioperative nursing education and training in both the 2nd and Revised 2nd editions. Additional expertise includes 25 years' experience in perioperative nursing functioning in various staff, leadership, educator, and management roles. He is the 2006 Recipient of AORN'S Award For Outstanding Achievement In Perioperative Nursing Education and is an internationally recognized perioperative expert with numerous published papers and presentations within the field of perioperative patient care, clinical ethics, and safety.
