Samantha Silverstein, MSN, BSN, RN, RT(R), CNOR, CPHQ, is currently the surgical quality manager at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York. She works closely with teams to identify opportunities for improvement and develop programs to improve surgical outcomes. Samantha started her health care career in 2000 when she graduated as a Radiologic Technologist. She returned to school in 2003 to pursue a career in nursing, and in 2005 when she receive her ADN, she began working in the OR as a new graduate. She then became a certified perioperative nurse (CNOR) in 2007, and worked as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, and charge nurse in the OR. After completing her BSN in 2011, she began combining quality with her surgical role, including working on enrolling the hospital in NSQIP and as a back-up surgical clinical reviewer. Samantha then transitioned from the OR to the quality department where she is in her current role. She most recently completed her MSN in Management and Leadership at in Western Governors University and has become involved with interdisciplinary teams throughout the hospital and offsite practices to implement a perioperative glucose management protocol as well as enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programs for colorectal, hysterectomy, hepaticopancreaticobiliary, total joint replacement, spine, and bariatric surgery patients - with a goal of expanding ERAS to all surgical patients. Samantha is also involved in Lean/Six Sigma and Performance Improvement initiatives, as well as training teams at the hospital on Lean/Six Sigma & Performance Improvement tools. No conflict.
