Executive Director
Cynthia D. Sweeney, MSN, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, is the executive director of The DAISY Foundation. The DAISY Foundation's mission is to say "Thank you to Nurses" for all that they do for their patients. The Foundation does this through a variety of programs, including The DAISY Award™ for Extraordinary Nurses, which recognizes extraordinary and compassionate nursing care. She is engaged in ongoing program development and provides the "nursing view" for The DAISY Foundation programs. Currently, she is pursuing her Doctorate at Johns Hopkins University. In her previous role with ANCC, she provided the oversight for the development and execution of educational products and services that support nursing certification as well as organizational credentialing. The programmatic areas of ANCC that she supported included ANCC Accreditation, Certification, Pathway to Excellence, and the Magnet Recognition program. She is a CNOR and has spent over 35 years in perioperative services as well as in academia. In addition, she served in the Navy Nurse Corps, retiring with the rank of Captain. One of her favorite roles was that of Clinical Nurse Specialist for Surgical Services, serving as teacher and clinician in support of surgical patients. No conflict.
