All perioperative leaders understand the importance of ensuring the department has an appropriate number of competent caregivers. Perioperative leaders also understand the reality of complex justifications, staffing predictions, hours per OR minute, and FTE calculations. This presentation will give step-by-step examples of how to calculate and justify the staff you need to cover the schedule, provide quality patient care, and justify the productivity of the department. The session will result in the participant returning to their work environment with knowledge that will be put to use immediately.

Learning Objectives:

• Calculate full time employee (FTE) need, including staff mix and benefit time relief.
• State measurements of productivity and what components are used to calculate.
• Identify causes for variation in FTE need versus actual worked hours.
