Perioperative teams play an integral role in enhancing patient safety through thoughtful planning, implementation and evaluation ofQuality multidisciplinary education. As an American College of Surgeons-Accredited Education Institute (ACS-AEI), the Advanced Surgical Technology and Education Center (ASTEC) team at Inova Fairfax Hospital provides best practices for simulation-based training for all members of the surgical team utilizing a variety of resources including high-fidelity simulators, 3-D printing, cadavers, low-cost trainers, and virtual reality technologies. Recognizing the tremendous positive impact that surgical simulation and team training centers can have on safe patient outcomes, it became important to share experiences and opportunities towards assisting other education centers in their journey in attaining the status as an ACS-AEI.
