Most ethical issues that arise within the context of providing care to the surgical patient will involve the perioperative nurse in some way. Nurses face daily situations that lack a clear right or wrong answer. In situations where there is no evidence as to what ought to be done, there may be an ethical issue.

• Identify the ethical values and duty of perioperative nurses.
• Describe value choices that are constantly made in nursing, including choices involving ethical issues.
