Every nurse leader and educator plan for continuous clinical workforce stability. Nursing residency programs for new graduate RNs is a national trend nowadays; however, staff retention issues and frequent turnover is still a significant hurdle. With training costs skyrocketing, not only is program failure a financial burden, it also contributes to a future nursing staffing shortage thereby sabotaging harmonized patient care. This presentation will outline the unique journey of the recruitment, retention, and recognition nursing service shared governance committee leaders used to develop their teaching institution’s nurse mentoring program and improve the new graduate RN staff orientation success rate.
