Patient reported data has been used to obtain patient consumption of opioid medications after surgery versus what is being prescribed by physicians. This data is being used to recommend postoperative pain regimens to include optimizing provider prescribing habits. Multi-modal pain management will be discussed. The research data can help physicians determine the most effective postoperative pain management in addition to lessening the availability of opioids to the community.
