Part 1-Orientation is Over: Now What? - A mentorship program designed to assist new perioperative nurses adjust to the OR environment includes an overview of skills building, mentorship, support groups, skills building, checklists, staff development, and engagement. Strategies for hiring, maintaining, and recruiting employees will be discussed, as well as preceptor recruitment and engagement.
Part 2--Oklahoma Partnership to Recruit OR Nurses - Learn strategies employed to negotiate a working relationship between hospitals and the college of nursing, and develop mutually agreed curricula for a specialty perioperative nursing course all in efforts to expose nursing students with an interest in perioperative nursing to the full scope of this nursing specialty. Discuss three strategies involved in developing a course to recruit perioperative nurses from a pool of baccalaureate nursing students, noting the financial implications to collaborative hospital partners.
Part 3- Recognizing the Power of Recognition: A Leadership Journey - Establishing a healthy work environment supports staff engagement, which supports patient outcomes and lowers operating costs through retention and avoidance of adverse events. Leadership strategies will be shared with demonstrated outcomes that improve nurse satisfaction and improved nurse turnover rates.
