English Literature and Composition
Anthony Perez
District High School ELA Instructional Coach
Northside ISD
This session is designed for AP English teachers with various levels of experience, Academic Deans, and Instructional Coaches. During the session, we will take you behind the scenes and explain how we used data to grow our school’s AP Lit. program from 6 passers to 33 passers in just two years.
We will show teachers how to use qualitative and quantitative data to do three things:
1. Find and target likely AP passers and track the progress of all students. 2. Use the “Data Minute” to quickly notice trends in students writing. 3. Give students more immediate and targeted feedback, by using a student friendly rubric.
These three tools not only lead to more success on the AP exam, but lead to greater student-self efficacy, a skill that all students will use long after they leave our classrooms even if the do not become English majors.
