Pre-AP for Art
AP Annual Conference Submission
Pre-AP Arts courses place an emphasis on the processes of creative production – building habits of creative experimentation and ideation, reflection, revision, and analysis, while also building discipline-specific skills and techniques in dance, music, theatre, or visual arts. While this process-focused approach sounds exciting, teachers new to the program may naturally wonder: what might this actually look like in my classroom? In this session, participants will hear from teachers who have implemented the Pre-AP Arts framework and instructional materials in their own classrooms, sharing examples of student work as well as their own instructional plans that incorporate Pre-AP principles and practices. In examining and discussing these instructional practices and student work, participants will identify key Pre-AP principles and practices, such as structured peer dialogue and reflective writing prompts, that may be implemented in their own arts classrooms.
