They say that art is a science and that science is an art. Many years ago I saw another teacher talk about how he uses magic in his classroom to convey chemical concepts. Ever since then it was my goal to bring chemistry alive using magic. In this session we will see how magic tricks can be used to teach concepts like breaking and forming chemical bonds, lab safety, observation skills, and accuracy and precision in measurements. We will also explore the “magic” of the lab and will create the salting effect emphasizing IMFs as well as look at an equilibrium lab in which one precipitate disappears and another one takes its place.
