A panel of expert AP teachers and professors and the College Board history team will consider effective forms of assessment and how they can be used in the classroom to assess student progress and to support instruction. We will discuss the similarities and the differences between formative and summative assessment, how these expert practitioners make intentional choices about when to use formative vs. summative assessment, and ways to incorporate formative assessment as a strong instructional tool in the classroom. We will look closely at the NEW AP support materials available in 2019 that include access to a vast question bank for each subject that can be used as another strong assessment tool AND a collection of brand-new formative assessment materials created just for AP teachers! We will discuss how to use information gleaned from formative assessment and the new AP assessment resources to inform teaching practice and develop next steps for instruction and for student learning.
