It isn’t enough for students to go to school and get good grades. Too many students are graduating with diplomas and finding it difficult to survive in college and career. As teachers, we have to provide them with challenging, grade-level appropriate tasks that will prepare them for the hard work in college and career. But not all students come to class with the language and reading skills they need to do this work. In this session, learn how to create class assignments that require students to demonstrate grade-level mastery, and what you can do when they aren’t ready for those tasks. Empower your students to access complex texts with strategies and routines that can be used in a variety of courses.
